Mikal Brejaart (1994, Rotterdam)

"In my studio on Statenweg in Rotterdam, I have created a space where I can freely develop a visual language."

My artistic practice grew out of the years I was involved in the club culture of Rotterdam and The Hague. Within this environment, I developed my own visual language, with energy, movement, and connection at its core. Over the years, my work gradually found more space beyond the club scene.

In 2022, I participated in a group exhibition in the United States. A year later, I exhibited in London as part of a show curated by Anthony Paul Fawcett, an art critic and curator known for his work with, among others, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Vogue. In 2024, I graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy as a member of Collectief22, a collective that continued after graduation.

Since graduating, I have continued to develop and broaden my artistic practice. In 2025, this resulted, among other things, in a special project in Rotterdam, for which I designed and produced a series of windows for a Marian chapel on Oudedijk. The project was part of a social neighbourhood initiative and brought my work into a different environment and into contact with a new audience.
